A website that highlights the tree of life:
"The Coconut"
Coconut Tree
(cocos nucifera l.) is called "The Tree of Life" because of the endless list of products
and by-products derived from its various parts. Food, shelter, fuel, clothing, furnitures and accessories - name it, the coconut has it.
The coconut provides a nutritious source of meat, juice, milk, and oil that has fed and nourished
populations around the world for generations. On many islands in the Philippines coconut is a staple
in the diet and provides the majority of the food eaten. It had contributed tremendously in the economic
survival of the Philippines being number one in the production and export of its produce.
Coconut is rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It is classified as a "functional food" because it provides many health benefits beyond its
nutritional content. It possesses healing properties far beyond that of any other dietary oil. Only recently has modern medical science
unlocked the secrets to coconut's amazing healing powers.
In 1988, N.W. Istfan of Harvard University Medical School's Nutrition Coordinating Center,
vindicated coconut oil. Coconut oil does not increase the role of heart disease,
while reduces the risk of atherosclerosis, cancer, and other degenerative conditions.
It prevents bacterial, viral and fungal infections, as a result of its antimicrobial component, lauric acid,
which is found solely in coconut oil and in breast milk. It is rich in MCTs, which provide an
immediate source of fuel and energy, enabling the human body to metabolize fat efficiently.
This feature helps dieters, athletes, individuals who have difficulty digesting fat. This historic evidence
strengthens recent findings about coconut oils where many people around the world,
thrived on these oils in their daily diets without negative health effects.
